Home Affairs Minister Hlengiwe Mkhize will brief the media ahead of the budget debate of her department, scheduled for same day as the media briefing, Wednesday 17 May 2017, at GCIS Imbizo Media Centre, Parliament, at 14H00.
The pre-budget vote media briefing will highlight key aspects of the Minister’s budget speech while pointing to areas that may also be focused on, including flagship programmes like modernisation of Home Affairs, professionalization of staff, facelift of frontline offices, renovation of ports of entry, transformation of international migration policy as well as refugee and asylum management.
The 2017/18 Home Affairs budget speech will unpack the new business case for the department and other priorities; these will be previewed at the media briefing. The Minister will be accompanied by Deputy Minister Fatima Chohan, Director-General Mkuseli Apleni and Heads of various branches.
