Matatiele - Minister of Home Affairs Naledi Pandor, supported by Deputy Minister Fatima Chohan and the Eastern Cape MEC for Education, will address an Imbizo and launch the Home Affairs-Matatiele Community Stakeholder Forum at the North-End Stadium in Ward 19 Matatiele in the Eastern Cape on Saturday 23 November 2013
During her visit to the Eastern Cape Minister Pandor will on Friday 22 November 2013 also have an opportunity to visit Qashasnek border gate which is between South Africa and Lesotho to assess immigration service delivery levels.
The Home Affairs Department has since 2009 embarked upon a campaign to build stakeholder forums which includes members of the local communities, local and provincial government structures as well several national departments including health, social development and home affairs.
The stakeholder forums- 254 in total and across the country- have over the years been credited with mobilization of communities particularly around the need for child registration within 30 days of delivery, organizing youths to apply for identity documents while encouraging the collection of uncollected IDs.
Working with local and provincial stakeholder forums during the weekend of the voter registration of 09-10 November 2013, the Home Affairs department was successful in mobilising those who needed various forms of identity documents such as IDs and temporary identity certificates to visit home affairs offices across the country to enable them to register as voters.
Accordingly and a result of among others interventions, stakeholder forums contributed largely to the work of the department of Home Affairs during the weekend of voter registration resulting in over 17 000 outstanding IDs being collected, 5381 ID applications processed and 1459 temporary identity certificates being issued to those who needed enabling documents for voter registration purposes.
