The Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, will brief the media on the Digitisation of Records project, passport security and transit visas. The briefing will provide an update on the digitisation project and unpack the implementation approach, including the process for recruiting 10 000 young people who will help in converting records of the SA population, from paper files to an electronic format.

Minister Motsoaledi will provide details on measures being taken to intensify security of South African passports and on developments regarding transit visas to deal with illegal entry at the country’s ports.

The project for the digitization of civic services records was announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa during the State of the Nation Address (SONA), on 10 February 2022.
