Pretoria – The Department of Home Affairs has noted reports on the suggested review of South Africa’s citizenship legislation emanating from a story in Sunday Times (8 September 2015).

The Department is presently not considering any policy change in this regard. Our law only restricts dual citizenship for those who apply for naturalisation if their countries do not allow dual citizenship.

The Department of Home Affairs is a key enabler of access to basic rights and services, including the right to citizenship.
