The Department of Home Affairs will embark on an extensive system upgrade of the Live Capture facilities as part of continuously improving processes for purposes of Smart ID cards and passports applications.

In this regard, all Home Affairs offices will be closed on Saturday, 11 April 2015 to ensure a smooth installation of the new upgrades aimed at enhancing service delivery towards the citizenry. The new systems will be tested on Sunday, 12 April 2015 to enable our offices to be ready to assist clients on Monday, 13 April 2015.

Among other benefits, the upgrade will include photo booth enhancements to ensure our clients spend less time at Home Affairs offices; as well as improvements to systems that capture clients that cannot be captured through normal processes such as babies and persons with disabilities.

Said Director-General Mkuseli Apleni: “Minister Malusi Gigaba has, on numerous occasions, made a commitment to South Africans that as a Department, we will strive to deliver the best service to our clients at all times. As part of modernising our organization, we will continue to seek innovative ways to realise our objective of moving towards a paperless Department.”
