The Minister of Home Affairs, Malusi Gigaba, will on New Year’s Day hand over birth certificates to parents of newly born babies at the Netcare Femina Hospital in Pretoria.
In line with the Department’s National Population Registration campaign, the handing over of unabridged birth certificates seeks to persuade all parents to register their children upon birth or within 30 days thereof. In this regard, the timely registration of births will be the only gateway into the National Population Register (NPR).
Accordingly, the Department intends ending all late registration of birth (LRB) by end of December 2015, after which all late applications for birth would go through an appeal and an adjudication process.
