The Minister of Home Affairs, Naledi Pandor will spend Mandela Day (18 July 2013) issuing birth certificates to crèche-going children from in and around Mamelodi Township in Pretoria.

A total of 95 children will receive their birth certificates at an event organised at the Bophelong Community Centre, 19477 Molepo St, Mamelodi East.  Minister Pandor will arrive at the Centre at 10h00.

  • Promote the registration of birth within 30 days after birth;
  • Encourage citizens who have reached the age of 16 years and above to apply and get their IDs and
  • Eliminate the current process of Late Registration of Birth.

A group of volunteers from Mamelodi will help with the cleaning and painting of the Centre.

About the Bopholong Community Centre

  • Bophelong Community Centre was established in 2000 by Pastor Titus Sithole. This is a community based one-stop Centre of Hope, which provides free and easy accessible social and welfare services to the community of Mamelodi and surrounding areas.
  • Bophelong is a Tswana word which means – “Where Life Is Sustained” The Centre is therefore well-positioned as - “a Haven for Life and Well-Being” for the community of Mamelodi. It is however not restricted to Mamelodi residents, and being founded on community centred principles, it is a home where everyone is welcome.
  • The centre is situated within the premises of Charity and Faith Mission, but is run independently from the church to ensure proper accountability to our stakeholders.
