The Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Mr Njabulo Nzuza, is scheduled to share the festive cheer with parents of babies born on Christmas. He will handover birth certificates to mothers of babies born on Christmas day to ensure that as we celebrate their arrival we remember to give them an identity, as South Africans.

No citizen should be deprived of citizenship, young or old.

The Deputy Minister’s gesture is a part of the Department’s effort to promote early birth registration by encouraging all parents to register their children within 30 days of birth at health facilities where their children are born or at a nearest Home Affairs office.

The registration of children is free and should be done within 30 days of birth.
