The Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Njabulo Nzuza will visit Home Affairs offices in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal on Friday, 17 September 2021, to assess levels of readiness for the Voter Registration Weekend scheduled for 18 and 19 September 2021.
The Department of Home Affairs will extend operational hours at front offices by rendering services this weekend, for eligible voters to collect the identity documents (IDs) they had applied for, or to apply for IDs or Temporary Identification Certificates. There are over 400 000 uncollected identity documents at Home Affairs offices nationwide.
The following priority services are to be rendered by the Home Affairs Department at its front offices:
- Collection of smart ID cards,
- Collection of green barcoded ID books,
- Issuance of Temporary Identification Certificates on the spot,
- Fingerprint verification,
- Verification and handling of queries referred by the IEC,
- Resolution of ID duplicates, rectifications, amendments and ‘dead alive’ cases,
- Mobile office services courtesy of Home Affairs mobile trucks.
