13 December 2020
The Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi and Deputy Minister Mr Njabulo Nzuza, are scheduled to undertake service delivery visits to some Home Affairs offices which serve a large numbers of people on 14 and 15 December 2020. The Minister will be in Gauteng while the Deputy Minister will be in KwaZulu-Natal.
The visits are aimed monitoring the delivering of services and adherence to Covid 19 regulations at Home Affairs offices. The Department of Home Affairs usually experiences higher than normal volumes of visitors during the holiday season. This trend is expected to continue this year and the Covid 19 pandemic demands additional vigilance.
Senior managers have been deployed to all provinces over the two days. Director General, Mr Tommy Makhode, will be in the Western Cape.
At the start of the lockdown period, the Department drew a plan of delivering services during the different Alert Levels. The visits are aimed at monitoring the implementation of these plans and to make the requisite interventions to ensure that Home Affairs officials and citizens deliver and receive services in a safe environment.
Each time there is a Covid 19 positive case at one of our offices, services are disrupted because such offices close, officials tested, buildings decontaminated and the names and contact details of people who visited that office are sent to the Department of Health for contact tracing.
Any person wishing to visit a Home Affairs office is reminded to wear their mask, observe social distancing and regularly sanitise or wash their hands with water and soap.
