The Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, and the Deputy Minister, Mr Njabulo Nzuza, are scheduled to deliver the budget vote speech for the Department of Home Affairs at a virtual debate, on Wednesday 22 July 2020, from 16h15 to 18h00.
The virtual budget debate is part of the National Assembly’s programme of mini-plenaries of government departments scheduled for week three of July 2020
The Minister and the Deputy Minister will be supported by the acting Director-General, Mr Jackson Mckay, and senior officials of the department.
The department will report to lawmakers on progress made in carrying out its mandate which is divided into two categories, namely civic services and immigration services. Its mandate is broken down into the following areas: management of citizenship and civil registration, management of international migration and management of refugee protection.
It is expected that the deliberations will encompass reflections on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the adjustments it had necessitated in government planning and the department’s response thereto.
