Close on 1 000 youth and young adults from across the Metro and Boland attended an entrepreneurship, career expo and Smart ID handover programme on Saturday 9 June at the Baxter Theatre.

The event was organised by the Department of Home Affairs in partnership with the SB Radebe Foundation, to mark Youth Month.
More than 30 exhibitors participated in this initiative, including banks, colleges, Cape Nature, Woolworths, various Sector Education and Training entities, NSFAS, universities and Old Mutual.

Young people engaged the exhibitors and there was a powerful programme of talks, cultural items and an ID handover over to several young people in the Concert Hall.
The Department of Home Affairs recently issued the 10th million smart ID to a young woman from Gauteng. She attended the Department’s budget speech on 16 May 2018.
The event at the Baxter is one of more than 20 outreach programmes that take place countrywide each year. The Deputy Ministry focuses on issues of citizenship, education, human rights and identity. Past programmes have included women on farms, the disability sector, schools and youth.
