The Department of Home Affairs wishes to reiterate that measures are being taken to ensure that clients receive quality services during currents bouts of load shedding experienced throughout the country.

We are working closely with our partners, including SITA, which hosts our data systems and provides the back-end power that enables our live-capture systems function properly. To this end, we will strive to continue rendering services to our clients with minimal interruptions at our frontline offices.

Part of the solution includes the provision of sufficient capacity generators that will ensure that our systems are able to function even when there are power outages around the country. In this regard, the Department will revert to an offline mode system in instances where live-capture systems are down. Inevitably, the offline mode will be slower, resulting in extended turnaround periods.

Minister Malusi Gigaba has pleaded for patience, particularly cognisant of the fact that most clients are in need of Home Affairs documentation during the festive season.

“We apologise to all South Africans for the inconveniences and the delays they have experienced while applying for and collecting their documents. We are continuing to work with our service providers to ensure that we are able to meet the demands from the public,” says Minister Gigaba.
