scam alert stamp

The Department of Home Affair’s Finance and Supply Chain Management Branch has been inundated with complaints and correspondence relating to fraudulent acceptance letters and or order numbers for the procurement of FERRO315XSmart ID Cards and or Finger Prints Scanners. These scammers are targeting unsuspecting companies and suppliers using fraudulent letters claiming that these letters are coming from the Department.

The fraudulent letters and orders are signed off by various people unknown to the Department but using names of the real DHA officials and Senior Managers. The letters are bearing the Department’s physical and postal address.

The unsuspecting companies / suppliers receives a request for quotation from a person claiming to be working for the Department. Thereafter, a fraudulent acceptance letter is issued to the unsuspecting supplier with the delivery and payment details. Immediately after the fraudulent acceptance letter, another letter directing the unsuspecting supplier to deliver the goods as matter of urgency is issued. This letter further indicates that the payment will be made using a delivery note payment method. This is contrary to Department’s policy of paying suppliers using a valid invoice.

The Department request all suppliers and the business communities out there to be vigilant around matters of procurement and if in doubt do not hesitate to contact the Department on this number:  Mr Lunga Njwabule 012 406 4027 or Ms Thandeka Ngcobo 012 406 2749.
