Applications for birth certificates should be lodged at your nearest Home Affairs office if applying from within South Africa and at the nearest South African Mission or Consulate if applying from abroad (applications from abroad may take longer depending on the different diplomatic bag dispatch periods).
Only pens with black ink must be used for the completion of the form BI-154.
Issuing of an unabridged (full) birth certificate, or a reproduction of the relevant register or a reproduction of any supporting documentation which is coupled to the register concerned, as well as verification of information from the birth register.

Issuing of an abridged computer printed or handwritten birth certificate, provided that no fees are payable for the issuing of the prescribed certificate on registration of the birth.
Cost: R10.00
